Dogs Love Playing in the Snow
Dogs love to play in the snow. They jump in it, and sometimes they even like to sit down in it as if it were a giant pillow. Something about snow seems to excite dogs, in the same way that snow can excite human beings if they haven’t seen it in awhile. It can snow when the temperature is in the thirties, and that’s the best time to take a snow loving dog out for some much needed exercise. The air won’t be too cold, and the snow makes a dog’s average playtime extra exciting.
Any place is a good place to play with a dog on a snow day, so long as it’s outdoors. Running back and forth or playing a game of catch in the snow is fun. Dogs like to eat snow, probably for refreshment purposes. After all, snow is cold water, and dogs love to drink water. If you have more than one dog, or if you are hanging out with someone who also has a dog, the two pets will no doubt want to play in the snow together. They will chase each other around, bark, and have an awesome time.
To enhance a game of catch, try using a snowball instead of a tennis ball. This will combine two of the dog’s favorite activities – playing catch and eating snow. Just make sure that the snowball is soft and free of any ice, and try to avoid hitting the dog with the snowball – it doesn’t like snow that much! If a family is feeling extra ambitious, dogs might enjoy pulling a sled in the snow. This can be a fun activity for the kids as long as the dog is also having fun and not wearing itself out trying to pull the sled.
